What is a Green Name Badge?

To ensure a safe environment for all members, every person who wishes to use tools in the shop must complete our safety training program. Once you have completed this program, you will be issued a Green Name Badge.

To be eligible for a Green Name Badge you must be:

  • A member of the Guild at a membership level of Sawdust Maker or above
  • At least 18 years old

Once you become a member, the process for earning your badge is as follows:

Step 1: Pass the Online Safety Test

Upon becoming a member, you'll receive an email with a link and password to our online Safety Test. This is an open-book test, so you can refer to the Guild's Safety Rules as you take it.

  • You have 90 days to complete the test after starting.
  • You must score 90% or higher to pass. If you do not pass, you must re-read the safety rules and retake the test.

Step 2: Complete Hands-On Training

After passing the online test, you must attend an in-person training session. You will also need to bring a signed Liability Waiver with you to this session. We offer two options for this training:

  1. Safety Orientation Class: A free, two-hour session focused on safety protocols.
  2. "Rough to Ready" Class: A hands-on, multi-hour class where you learn to safely use a variety of machines to build a small project. This class has a separate fee, but it's a great way to gain practical experience.

Step 3: Receive Your Green Name Badge

Once you have successfully completed all steps, your Green Name Badge will be issued and posted in the Guild lobby. This badge designates your authorization to use the shop.
